In this book, we will consider a range of evidence that shows that our consciousness does not always reside in our physical body. What does science have to say about our consciousness? What experiments have been done which show that our consciousness extends beyond or even exists outside our physical body?

We will look at the testimony of people who have had near-death experiences, and we will consider their meaning. Have some people experienced “a life before life” – about which they can recall specific, verifiable details? What do religions have to say about such experiences? Why is the use of psychedelics frowned upon and even suppressed and criminalised in Western Cultures? What consciousness-related research has the US Military been involved in? Have off-world beings or entities communicated with some people in an effort to show them the true nature of our being, our consciousness?

Looking at the research of a selection of scientists and the writings of various authors, speakers, teachers, practitioners and others across history, this book attempts to draw together diverse threads—in an effort to find common ground between science, religion, mysticism and spirituality. The topics and links presented in this book invite the reader to expand their view of what reality is and begin or continue their spiritual journey…

Exploring Consciousness, Expanding Reality provides a much-needed and thought-provoking exploration of the nature of our existence, bridging current scientific and spiritual thinking. Readers are offered a wide-ranging yet accessible overview that challenges convention and encourages us to view reality in a fresh light, question duality, and consider the possibility that we are all interconnected.

Among other topics, Johnson examines psychology, quantum physics, epigenetics, and spiritual traditions, exploring how consciousness may influence the world around us. Experiments by Gary Schwartz and Bruce Lipton, accounts of near-death experiences, psychic phenomena, and unusual abilities invite readers to question assumptions and broaden their understanding of what is possible.

After twenty-two years of collecting and analysing research, Johnson writes as a careful observer, curating diverse studies, case histories, and cultural insights into a coherent narrative that connects ancient wisdom with modern science. From the observer effect to consciousness-altering experiences, the book highlights patterns suggesting a deeper, interconnected reality that transcends perceived opposites.

Engaging, intellectually stimulating, and often surprising, Exploring Consciousness, Expanding Reality is ideal for anyone curious about the mind, existence, and the potential of human awareness. It inspires readers to explore new ideas, challenge familiar assumptions, and embark on their own journey of discovery.

"I had the opportunity to proofread Exploring Consciousness, Expanding Reality by Andrew Johnson, and in doing so I found it to be a thoughtful, ambitious, and genuinely stimulating exploration of one of the deepest questions we can ask: the relationship between consciousness and reality itself. The book draws together science, psychology, spirituality, philosophy, and anomalous research in a way that feels both considered and open-ended.

What I particularly appreciated is that the author does not attempt to impose conclusions on the reader. Instead, the material is presented as a series of interconnected signposts, encouraging independent thinking rather than belief. Topics ranging from quantum mechanics and near-death experiences to religion, psychedelics, and cosmic consciousness are handled with clarity and respect, making complex ideas accessible without oversimplifying them.

Andrew Johnson’s background in physics and computer science is evident in the structured approach he takes, yet the writing remains approachable and engaging. I also valued the book’s willingness to acknowledge contradiction and uncertainty, which mirrors the nature of consciousness itself and adds to its authenticity.

Overall, I would recommend this book open-minded readers who enjoy questioning assumptions and exploring ideas beyond conventional boundaries. It is not a book that tells you what to think, but one that invites you to think more deeply about who we are, how reality may function, and what it means to be conscious in an ever-expanding universe."

In a world where darkness too often seems to preside, Johnson shows us that our consciousness gives each of us the capacity to connect with infinite knowledge, life and light. His own journey of awakening and expanded consciousness led him to study the works of dozens of thinkers and experimenters, who he in turn introduces us to. They range from an animal communicator to ‘remote viewing’ teachers; from the concept of 'morphic resonance’ perhaps being the binding force of all matter and energy, to well-documented near-death experiences; and from advanced, awakening-spreading, humans known as ‘WingMakers,’ to Nobel-prize-winning scientists whose use of LSD helped them access information central to their breakthroughs.

Exploring Consciousness, Expanding Reality is Andrew Johnson's new book that brings together 22 years of research, which relates to his previously published books.  Andrew manages to thread together a whole host of topics, to bring the reader links to subjects that they may not have considered before. It really does give the reader the desire to research further into areas that they otherwise would not have journeyed into.

"What is the nature of reality?" is a question that has always been on my mind. Andrew Johnson, who is an author known for his dedication to his work on checking the evidence, shows that he is more than willing to research areas that are controversial in nature and he is willing to look outside of the mainstream science.

I really enjoyed reading about my favourite interests and how they have been represented in this new book. (I am also another one of those people who use the parking angel, as discussed in Chapter 13.)

I love this book as it meshes interests together in an easy flowing way. I will be recommending it to so many of my friends!

There must be hundreds of books on various aspects of consciousness and the nature of reality, but what is extraordinary about Andrew Johnson's offering is the way it pulls together so many strands of these broad-ranging subjects and covers the history of significant developments and personalities in the field. It explores consciousness by delving into the roles of the body and brain, psychology and memory and the effects of meditation, mantras, music and psychedelic drugs, On the nature of reality it is not afraid to venture into the realms of psychic abilities, unseen forces, interactions with ETs, numerology, universal consciousness and progressive ideas such as morphic resonance. A study of the nature of reality would not be complete without considering what religions have to say about it, and this is included along with evidence for the existence of the soul, survival beyond death, reincarnation and discarnate entities. Johnson's engineering background shines through as he is primarily interested in what can be supported by evidence - whilst avoiding the common error of dismissing human testimony as evidence if it does not fit a conventional mechanistic world view. This is underlined by a huge number of references and web links to help the reader delve deeper. The value of this scholarly yet readable volume is going to be both as a comprehensive introduction to these subjects and as a reference work for the initiated.
