How Intelligent Design Works

ID Goal: To Disprove Darwinism

Michael Behe: Irreducible complexity

Irreducibly complex?

Irreducible complexity essentially states that there are biological structures that could not have evolved from a simpler state. A cell, for example, is composed of hundreds of complex molecular machines. Without any one of those machines, the cell would not work. So the cell is irreducibly complex: It couldn't have evolved from a simpler state because it couldn't have worked in a simpler state, and natural selection can only choose among traits that are already functioning.

The example of a mousetrap, which typically has five parts: a wooden base to support the contraption, a metal hammer to pound the mouse, a spring to power the hammer, a catch to release the spring and a metal bar that holds back the hammer. Without any one of these parts, the device is useless. Therefore, a mouse trap is irreducibly complex.

In biology, ID-ers see the bacterial flagellum as an irreducibly complex system.

A flagellum works as a propeller to help some bacteria get around. This "propeller" contains about 30 different proteins that make it work -- some act as a motor, some act as a stator and others act as a bushing to guide the driveshaft through the bacterial membrane. Without almost any one of these 30 proteins, the entire system breaks down.

The scientific community responds to irreducible complexity by stating that while it is true that natural selection can only choose among traits that are already functioning, the traits don't have to be functioning in their current form. They could have been serving other purposes when they were chosen as advantageous for their current function.

In the example of the mouse trap, scientists point out that if you remove the catch and metal bar, you've got a tie clip. If you remove the spring, you've got a nice keychain. They also claim that science has already discovered that a group of the proteins that make up bacterial flagella is used by certain bacteria for an entirely different function: It acts as a sort of "molecular pump" in the bacterial membrane.

"The point, which science has long understood, is that bits and pieces of supposedly irreducibly complex machines may have different -- but still useful -- functions ... Evolution produces complex biochemical machines by copying, modifying, and combining proteins previously used for other functions"

----------------------------

Statements from ID movement leaders call greatly on religion. Phillip E. Johnson (LAWYER & BORN AGAIN CHRISTIAN) of the Discovery Institute, speaking of the purpose of the ID movement, has said:

"The objective ... is to convince people that Darwinism is inherently atheistic, thus shifting the debate from creationism vs. evolution to the existence of God vs. the non-existence of God"

Intelligent desing does't necessarily have anything to do with God. An advanced group of ETs could have seeded the Earth with the first DNA.

You know that and I know that. But some still think that the baby jesus did it all.

While we are here.

Do you think that we came from Mars?
A race of beings, a bit like humans, came from the dying planet millions of years ago. They are either still here or we are them now. i.e. They changed whatever we were genetically into what we are today, and they are still tinkering???

Backtracking i see.....trying to cover up you pre concieved belief.
Also trying hard to spark a religious row in order to humiliate another poster.
Why ? 1. you are a bollox 2. you have repressed anger, probably the victim of bullying 3. you have been programmed 4. you are a bollox.

Where did the first ever DNA come from ??? I mean 'the first'.....

According to Christians Biblical creation took place in 4004 BC, making the Earth 6014 years old. Yet if I look up at the night sky I can see stars the light from which took over 7,000 years to get here. I can see galaxies the light form which took hundreds if not billions of years to get here, proving biblical creation to be rubbish.

Within his work `A Literary History of Ireland', Douglas Hyde wrote that:

...representatives of the old pagan learning were allowed to continue to propagate their stories, tales, poems, and genealogies, at the price of incorporating with them a small share of Christian alloy ...But so badly has the dovetailing of the Christian and pagan parts been managed in most of the older romances, that the pieces come away quite separate in the hands of even the least skilled analyser, and the pagan substratum stands forth entirely distinct from the Christian accretion.

In other words remove the Christian elements from Irish myth then what remains is Culture which like so many on this planet, contains no reference to the Garden of Eden, Noah or the Towr of Babel, as these all relate to the mythology of specific Middle Eastern races to whom 99.99999999999% of the population have no physical or cultural connection other than the out of Africa migration. Equally genetic evidence shows that Homosapians interbred with neanderthals. So which God created the neanderthals and the races of non-Jewish or Arabic descent?, because it isn't the God of the Torah, Bible or Quran.

5. You talk rubbish, you live in a make believe world of your own 'truth' inside your own head, and you feel humiliated because you have been made to look more than a bit daft. I can only claim credit for making some reasonable posts, you humiliate yourself. Nothing to do with me.

DARK AGES...
