Archaeoacoustics, is the study of sound in archaeological contexts. The earliest percussion instruments we played were called Lithophones, which are calcite forms that were struck- think hitting a stalagtite/stalagmite.

Sometimes sounds were illustrated with geometric patterns painted/carved on rocks which also acted as a sign that the rock had important qualities.

I found an interesting website that goes into all of this
www.landscape-perception.com/archaeoacoustics

It very nicely brings art and music into a meaningful context where they acted together be it to predict weather or to provide a visual and musical soundtrack to capture the feeling of the hunt. Beats Hollywood and the ideas date back from over 10,000 years.

Stuff NASA. They'll probably say they were sprayed on by Indian punk rockers in 1976.

Possible evidence of technology, human existence going back millions of years. The author provides an extensive list.

An interesting read wensam. Civilised human existence going back "millions of years" does seem to be a smack in the face of Graham Hancock's theory...

Graham Hancock's theory...

I thought he was or has become con trolled opposition? He looked well traumatised after his mind altering drug experiences...

We need some new theories now, don't you think?

Maybe he is back on the Ayahuasca again and overdosed himself this time!

Yes, I agree. We cannot rely just on Hancock's theory alone (there is every chance he could be wrong!) Graham Hancock presents himself articulately well in lectures etc, but he is not the only discoverer in the world and what he says is still conjecture!

Thanks. I see he has knowledge of Sanskrit and Vedic epistemology, oooooo, my type of guy.

He makes a good point here about how the early Christians destroyed much of the ancient Greek and Roman artifacts; I suppose all cultures on the rise do this to overlay their new vision. In nature we have cannibalism eg when a male lion takes over a new pride he eats the infants to make sure his own seed dominates.

The Victorians quickly got rid of the artifacts that depicted the sexual side of Ancient Egypt's culture. They were very moral do'nt you know. Strange that prostitution was at its peak at that time and has never been higher.

When the Catholic church came to England it built its churches on pagan sacred sites and took over the special pagan dates with church feast days.

As did the Romans after Claudius invaded. They desecrated scared shrines and built temples to the Roman gods. This happened throughout the regions occupied by Rome and Claudius was simply following on from the protocol laid by by Julius Caesar and before.

Didn't Dennis Price talk about this some years ago? I seem to remember hearing one of his talks about Stonehenge when he mentioned a "twin" that lay close by. I'll have to go any look this up but I'm fairly certain that's what he said.

The above link explores the tools of the Shaman- drumming, drawing, drugs and dancing in an refreshing way. It tries to explain the idea of the 'flight' of the Shaman as an out of body experience stimulated by sound, image, movement and substance.

Hope you enjoy.
