The G7 meeting is over and according to the MSM the worlds leaders are claiming that the worst of the recession is over. REALLY?

That is not what the Japanese Prime Minister was saying.

Funny how it is always on a Friday when this happens.

BAD BANKING PRACTICE

I received a call from 08000 852652 on Tuesday 1st June, the caller saying he was from BARCLAYS and asking for various proofs of MY identity - so I refused and demanded proof of HIS identity.

He quoted my various numbers related to my accounts but I refused to give him any information at all.

On Tuesday 7th June I received another call from the same number. This time the guy said he was a senior manager so I gave him a lecture in approaching customers this way.

I've checked out the number and it does belong to Barclays but are they just trying it on to see how much personal info you'll give to someone who says they're an official?

Moral: Burglars don't wear striped jumpers and eye masks any longer, nor do they carry a bag labelled "SWAG".

MORE BAD BANKING

You get a "joke" email, forwarded by a well known mate. The headers show he forwarded it to a number of others and it came from someone you've never heard of. It suggests you learn your "porn star screen name" and get a nice certificate you can print by replying with the name of your first pet (say a fish called "Flash") and your mother's maiden name (say "Brown").

Your "porn star screen name" is then returned to you in fancy typeface and with some decoration showing "Flash Brown".

Problem? Almost all banking institutions use the name of your first pet and mother's maiden name as low level ID checks.

BTW, I am NOT "Flash Brown". Nor do I sport a moustache. Not a real one.

"It was a fake moustache..... (You have to "google" or "bing" "PID" follwed by "fake moustache" for that one.)

The media are making feel good noises about the rise in the price of oil. Even with the rise there have been more oil companies going bust, with bigger losses than the whole of last year.

To paraphrase a quote."I just love the smell of fear coming from the banks in the morning." More banks are being investigated, in Singapore.

WELL DONE YORKSHIRE BUILDING SOCIETY - SAVINGS INTEREST INCREASE!

It's not often we can say this but Barnsley Building Society has merged with Yorkshire to form a bigger Yorkshire Building Society and they appear to be making life better for their customers.

One thing they'e done for savers is to INCREASE their instant access savings account interest rate from 1.05% to 1.30%.

Ok, it's not going to make anyone rich but bear in mind that Barclays have progressively slashed their instant access savings rates to around 0.25%.

So my advice would be, support the YBS and put your money where their mouth is!

It's a BUILDING SOCIETY, not a BANK.

On the 01/01/2016 a law came into effect that would put an end to bank bail outs.

Instead of the tax payer taking on the debts, the investors(also the savers) would have to take the hit. It was dubbed the bail in.

In Italy's case this is a problem and they may go back to the tax payer.

When it comes to laws there appears to be a problem in enacting them when banks are involved.
