Doe's anyone here know how to make a decent telescope that can get really close to the moon but not cost a fortune to make? I remember on a trip to Turkey this guy in Bodrum had the most excellent telescope I have ever used, it was only about 7ft long but had a massive lens, you could see such good details of the moon surface I bet if you got a camera on such a telescope you find lots of interesting things.

A copy of astronomy now has a scopes for sale section, second hand, some good bargains now and again. E-bay, or if you want to build your own you can buy mirrors pre ground and polished, (if you want a newtonian,) and assemble to your own design.

Thanks Skipman, now that is a magazine I have not had for so many years now. I have tried to look at scopes on Amazon and Ebay, I think I would like to do a glass work class and make my own big lens if its possible.

It is possible though very time consuming. Better if it is done with someone who has previous experience. There is information available but the written word will only take you so far. Good luck.

Unfortunatly its not here in Essex but we did have a lovely clear night I took a fair amount of Astronomy photos to look over see if I have come over any unusual trails.

If your going to watch the Aurora, try and get some pictures I love to see them.

I would love to, but living in the city not good due to light pollution- would need to go to Fife possibly better than Edinburgh. The skies have been amazing recently, red and brooding at times- like in the Hopi prophesies.

Hi Arrmand
Have a look here for Hopi info. The guy who made this site thinks he is the reincarnation of Tesla!?! I do find it interesting/useful.
