If there is to be MacDonalds on the Moon it's not wise to have a drive thru. After all to eat you'd have to open the visor on your helmet, then your big meal won't be the only thing you'll have to go.

I know great and true story about how in the 1990s the Cheiftain of the Clan MacDonald nearly brought about the demise of the MacDanolds compoany.

Talking of odd stories I know a great and true story about how the demise of the Delorean Motor Company began after the destruction of a shrub.

I'll tell them if any of you are interested.

According to NASA that is not a McDonalds restaurant in the background, it is a naturally occuring structure, formed by billions of years of erosion by space dust.

Well, the firm MacDonald's full name is MacDonald Restaurant and they wanted to register the word "MAC" and the name "MacDonald" as their trademark, when they couldn't they took it to court.

However legally the can't as "Mac" meaning "Son of" is part of a Gaelic language and can't be registered as trademark. Whilst the name MacDonald is Clan name and as such is the legal property of the Chieftain of that Clan and the title of the MacDonald, but by law a Clan Chieftain has the legal power to stop anyone using the Clan name.

But what really pissed off the MacDonald Chieftian was that the clown used in adds the "Ronald MacDonald" is also his name had they So if they dared call themselves MacDonald not only would the be impersonality the MacDonald (which is identity theft), but everyone with the name MacDonald or Mac in their name wouldn't be allowed to use their own family name. So the MacDonald took them to court and told them if they didn't drop their action, he'd not only deny them the right to use the name (as a Clan Chieftain has the legal power to stop anyone using the Clan name).

Nice to known the little people can kick seven shades out of the big guys.

Mind the best story relates to the De Lorean Motor Company. You see the within Ireland the shrub known as Crataegus monogyna, is strongly associated with the fairies as they were believed to mark the entrance to the otherworld. Now the De Lorean Motor Company was doing great in Northern Ireland, so John De Lorean decided to expand the factory to build a new production facility. Right at the edge of new site was one such bush and despite warning from the Church, Loyalist and Republican paramilitaries they pulled up the bush. Shortly afterwards demand suddenly dropped, cost began to over run, shares lost value within a year you couldn't give them away. Coincidence or a warning not to f#ck with those of the otherworld?

I first heard the story from my brother-in-law who used to be a solider who served in NI. I've also found references to it in books on Irish Folklore. You have to do a bit digging but there are references to in on the internet, such as ths:

I've a good memory I followed the MacDonald case when it was covered on talk radio. Whilst the thing about the DMC I've found in several books on folklore. A lot of the information I've shown within this and other forums comes from a book I wrote years ago but never got publsihed. So I just cut and paste from it.

Fairiey forts have the same superstitions attached to them in Ireland. These are circular constructions usually built so that each fort can see 3 others for reasons of comunication Im told.
If you have a fort on your land then its a no go area, apparently they had some kind of protection talisman put there after there construction by the local stoneage preist.
This is local folklore i picked up when i lived in Co Clare so i dont know how much of its fact.
"The hungry ground" was even more feared.

I recommend you read:

`The Dark Spirit' by Dr Robert Curran, its about the darkerside of Celtic Folk lore.

and

`A Dictionary Of Fairies", by Katherine Briggs, it's a who's who and what's what of the otherworld.

In the Magillicuddy Reeks Mountains of County Kerry, there's Dun Dreach-fhoula (`The Castle of the Blood Visage') where by tradition the `Lhiannan Shee' and `dearg-due' are said to live, they are otherworldly creatures the former of which is a vampire and the latter a flesh eating ghoul who both pray on travellers.
